How to Count the Omer

Counting the Omer is a time of introspection as we meditate on the attributes of God and also measure their display in our lives.  The discipline of counting each of the days of the Omer reminds us too that all of our days are numbered, and it is our responsibility to make each day count.

Each evening, beginning with the day after the Sabbath after Passover, while standing, one first recites the blessing for the mitzvah of counting, and then declares the number of days and weeks of the Omer count:

1. Recite the blessing:

Traditional:
Blessing for the counting of the omer
Baruch atah adonay eloheynu melech ha'olam asher kidshanu
  bemitzvotav vetzivanu al sefirat ha'omer

Blessed are you O Lord our God,
King of the Universe who has sanctified us by your commandments
and commanded us to count the Omer.

Messianic Blessing:
Blessed are You O Lord our God, King of the Universe
Who cleansed us through Yeshua our Messiah and by His Commandments
and has commanded us to count the Omer.

2. Count the Omer:   Recite the following on day one.
The following shows the counting for day one.  For the rest of the days, click here for printable counting chart.

Hayom yom echad la'omer
Today is the first day of the Omer

3.  Meditate on an attribute of God and also how it relates to your life.
We have assembled a chart showing the various attributes of God paired up along with the fruit of the Spirit.  We can reflect on the mightiness of God as well measure how we have adopted His attributes in our lives.

When you arrive at the 50th day it will be Shavuot and you will be prepared to recommit your love for God through Yeshua!

Discover the meaning of Counting the Omer and how it applies to your life!

After being delivered from Egypt and the bondage of slavery, the Israelites made a 50-day journey to Mt. Sinai.  This was a time of preparation for the next event which was receiving the Torah.  This journey parallels the journey that believers are on today.

In this teaching on the Counting of the Omer, Messianic Pastor Charles T. Martin gives insight into this little known time of the year where Believers can take measure of their lives and build on their relationship with their God just as the Israelites did as we journey toward the next coming event as the Bride of Yeshua!
